To dream is to see the future in your imagination before it happens. The ability to dream is the greatest power in the world and being deprived of this ability is the greatest injustice in the world. It is in your dreams that you have the opportunity to break free from your present limitations. In your dreams, in your imaginations you can break free from failure, you can break free from poverty, you can break free from bondage and you know what? As a man thinketh in his heart so is he, which mean your dreams are coming to pass.
If your tomorrow will be better than your today, you must learn to dream. You may not be able to do much about your today because your today was created yesterday but you have the opportunity to do something about your tomorrow because your tomorrow is being formed today. There are several benefits to having a dream; a dream gives you direction once you see yourself in a new you; you know exactly where to go with your life; a dream reveals your potentials or your past mistakes may have told you, you are a failure but in your dreams you see a new you doing things you could never do before. The dream motivate you, gives you hope, gives you a reason to live.
A dream also brings discipline into your life because you now know that not any road will take you to the destination you are seeing in your dream. It determines your associations and it determines how much effort you will put into your education and the things you want to do. A dream makes you a magnet; you begin to attract the people and the resources that will make that dream come to pass. Friend, get a dream, pray, meditate; get close to successful people your dreams are coming to pass.
A man by the name El Paul Ove once said a blind’s man world is bounded by the limit of his touch. An ignorant man’s world is the limit of his knowledge, a great man’s world by the limits of his vision. In order word, what you see on the inside today is what you will see on the outside tomorrow. You must not allow your past experiences to limit your dreams concerning tomorrow. If you allow your experience today to limit the size of your dream you have cheated your tomorrow. Don’t let your history become your prophesy. I know that it is not easy to break free from our past experiences, our experiences stamp pictures on our hearts, create barricades in our minds; make it look difficult for us to succeed. However, it’s a fight, it’s a war we must not allow our past failures to predict future failure for us. We must choose to believe that our tomorrow will be better than our yesterday.
I believe by now you have a dream; a dream that causes the blood to flow in you veins, dreams that inspires you, that motivates you I believe that you are seeing a great future for yourself. Now you can turn your dream to reality by doing the following things: first develop a plan, calculate from where you are to where you want to go, give it a time limit, set specific goals; step by step goals that will take you to where you want to go and fix a time frame for each of those goals.
Secondly, you must develop your skills. Promotion is only a reward for problems that you solve. Give the small opportunities that you have now your best shot; you must work hard and develop expertise. When a man is an expert on his job he will stand before kings he will not stand before ordinary men. Next, take action you have got to make a move. Things don’t move by themselves in our world. Those dreams won’t turn themselves into a reality you have to turn them to reality.
You will succeed!
Merry Xmas and a properous New Year!

Happy New Nigeria
Hi Visitors,
Find below the formal invitation to the New Nigeria Club launch coming up on New Year day culled from www.deoluakinyemi.com
Someone called me today, and said…”Deolu, pele, you must be over over busy, I can see you have not updated your site in quite a while”, the reality is, I have been extremely busy, but busy doing good things and we have had a lot of good news in the past few days.
Before I feed you with the details of the good news, let me use this opportunity to invite all my friends and visitors on www.deoluakinyemi.com to the official launch of New Naija Club, aka New Nigeria Club, on the 1st of January, 2008; 3:00pm-5:00pm at the Ballmoral Hall, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja Lagos. This is an opportunity for you, not only to start out your new year on a powerful note, but to be part of a great new beginning for Nigeria. The New Nigeria Club has been in it’s prelaunch phase for 4 weeks now, and the response has been phenomenal. It has left people wondering what else is there to launch as they feel it’s launched already. But you just make yourself available on the 1st of January, and it will become quite clear to you, that we haven’t started at all.
Key features of the January 1 event include short bursts about the New Nigeria by Prof Pat Utomi, Niyi Adesanya, Fela Durotoye, Gbenga Sesan, Rev (Mrs) George, and my humble self (Adeolu Akinyemi). It’s also featuring Sound Sultan, and some budding musical artists. Based on agreements to partnership we have secured with law enforcement agents, we’ll be having short talks from representatives of EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force. Come January 1, we’ll also be unveiling the mega bank, that has entered into big time partnership with the New Nigeria Club. As I write, we are also concluding negotiations on getting representations from the Federal Government, Ministry of Youth and Sport and National Orientation Agency and the Lagos State Government.
One outstanding thing I have observed in the last 4weeks of NNC prelaunch is favour. Every organization we have gone to meet, every agency we have enlisted the support of, and every organization we have sought to partner with have responded in the affirmative. I called the MD of a bank I have no relationship with and he gave me an immediate appointment, everything we need is just surfacing one way or the other, it’s been awesome. Guess there is nothing you can do to an idea whose time has come. One other thing that has dazed me is how some organizations hear the idea and suddenly begin to suggest ways to support us to blow the idea bigger than we are seeing it. It is really true that in the beginning of any sustainable epidemic, the first buyers and carriers of the vision are either visionaries, innovators or salesmen.
Next year is a few days ahead, and my calendar for the year is almost filled. Is it the Abuja event that promises to host the president? Is it the planned meeting by the police force for us to see and address about 25,000 police officers? Or is it the fully sponsored events in the 36 states of Nigeria? Or is it the fact that one organization is showing their willingness to sponsor thousands of Nigeria Students to join the club with an option of giving employment based on the clubs recommendation? Or is it a reality show that is featuring top Nigerian artistes and training them to be New Nigeria ambassadors? Next Year is Loaded, and it can be for you too. Start the Year on a high note… Join New Nigeria Club today…. and come for January 1 event and invite your friends… RSVP

More on Nospecto 2

Still on Nospetco, the latest news reaching me is that the company will be coming out of it travails bigger and stronger in January 2008.
Unconfirmed report has it that they have even registered their own bank to take care of payments of thier clients in an undisclosed name with the regulatory bank of Nigeria, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
With the new setup, investors will have the opportunity of either divesting, compounding their interest with the principal or divest altogether.
Recently the chairman of the company, Alhaji Yushau A. Maiyaki wrote investors of the company thanking them for their support in the company's darkest hour, the letter, the second written by the chairman since the problem started is currently posted on their website.
Please click on this links: www.valuedclients.net/cletter.htm to view the latest letter and www.imoisilis.com/search/label/Nospetco to read the first letter.
The letters is seen as a way of bridging the communication gap between the company and its clients since they can no longer do business peacefully in their Lagos office without angry investors distrupting their activities and harrasing their staff.
The company which is into Oil and Gas operating joint venture business with interested clients with a sharing pattern of 4.9% (40,000 naira) monthly for every 450,000 Naira invested in the JV.
The company have been having problems since April 2007 and has failed in meeting its own part of the JV for over eight months now.
imoisilis.com is set to feed you with the latest unfolding events of this great company which currently is holding the future of a lot of Nigerians in its hand.

Desire for Success
A long time ago, a great warrior made an important decision that guaranteed his success on the battle field. He was up against an enemy whose soldiers out numbered his own. He loaded his soldiers into boats and they sailed to the enemy‘s territory. As soon as they landed, he ordered his men to burn the boats that brought them. Then he announced; you can see the boats that brought us going up in smoke. We cannot leave this place alive unless we win. We now have no choice, we win or we perish”. Well they won.
When you burn the boat and burn all possible sources of retreat, you are expressing a strong desire for success. Strong desire is an important requirement for success. To desire is to want something. To crave or long for something with intensity.
Most people wish for success and wealth. But it is not enough to wish. God does not grant wishes, he grants desires. What do you want God to help to achieve today? Mark 11:24 says; “whatsoever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive, and you shall have them.
Several years ago, a number of shops were burnt down on state street, Chicago. The morning after a group of merchants held a meeting, to decide whether to rebuild the burnt down building or move to another city and start business again. All the merchants decided to leave Chicago. All except one – MARSHALL FIELD. He pointed at his burnt shop and said , “Gentlemen , on that very spot I will build the world’s greatest store, no matter how many times it may burn down.”
Strong desire breeds persistence. Strong desire is a key to success. It does not matter how many times you have failed. A strong desire will make you to try again and again until you breakthrough. Those who just wish for success give up in the face of disappointment. But those who are hungry and thirsty for success keep moving inspite of obstacles. They have internal drive.
Get hungry and thirsty for success today. Let your desire for success result in persistent action. Go out and face challenges. BUILD YOU DESIRE FOR SUCCESS. Today.
A burning desire for the achievement of your goals is an essential requirement for your success. You must crave success more than you want anything else. Let it become your greatest obsession. Your dreams will eventually turn to reality. To build your desire, do the following:

- Have a specific goal. If you desire money, write down how much. If you want success in examination, write down the grades you desire. If you want a marriage partner, write the qualities and features you desire. Until you are specific, your dreams are just wishes.
- Dream about your goals. Engage your imagination. See yourself already in possession of the money you want. See yourself already successful in your examination. See yourself at the top in your profession. It will fire your desire.
- Pray about your goals. The more you pray, the more ideas God will give you to help achieve your goal.
- Take action. As you succeed with the initial steps towards your goal, the possibility of your ultimate success will increase. So will your desire increase. And if you experience set-back along the way just keep trying. It has been said, “if you must perspire to acquire what you desire, do not retire, only refire.
Have a wonderful week.

Unfolding Details of NNC Health Deals
The picture is now getting clearer on New Nigeria Club health package for its members.
Deolu Akinyemi one of the main organizers of the club made this known in his recent blog post, titled "Health is Wealth". Please see details below.
Lately, NNC has been unfolding new highly discounted deals almost on a daily basis for its members. The club whose primary purpose is to re-build this great nation is fast making waves across the country with increasing number of members daily, taking opportunity of the wonderful deals presented.
If you are yet to come on board then you are really missing, never heard about it? Read all the post in NNC label on this blog to abreast you of what the club is all about.

Health is Wealth
The excitement mounts everyday in the side of the world where I work and live, not because of the regular reasons, but because everyday we get opportunities to add value to more lives. 2007 has been a year of years for me, and I marvel at what I see ahead for 2008. I’m going to do a proper recap of 2007, with details of the high moments, and the moments just before that. 2007 alone can be a novel, and every page will lift with excitement, God has been good.
Someone walked into my office 3 days ago, and told me something profound. He asked me if I understood what I was doing, I wondered what he meant. He went ahead to tell me that he feels what NNC has achieved in getting an opportunity for people to buy land for N18,000 per month is awesome. That N18,000 is the equivalent of what some of them use to drink in a matter of weeks, and now they can see opportunities. He says we have brought property ownership to the lower middle class. He told me that he had registered himself a number of times into the club because of his interest in the board contest, but now, he was going to change the profile of all the other registerations to his family members as he would want them all to have the NNC ID cards, and take part in the opportunities. (By the way, the land opportunity in this particular estate closes on monday, 10th Dec, 2007)
Believe me, one positive feedback, drowns a lot of negative perceptions. It is very normal that the people the master prepares the banquet for, are not the ones that finally eat it. People fail to try again after haven failed once, and condemn themselves to haven failed. I have decided to remain undetered in my quest to provide value, and to remain accountable to the objectives and outputs we have commited to.
I feel particularly good today, as finally I have a full picture of the healthcare opportunity that is now open to NNC Members. Everybody I have shared this with has marvelled, some even clapped. We had gotten a good deal before, but it got better yesterday as we were able to negotiate some additional things to come with it.
Just a few months ago, I spent about N300,000 in the hospital where my family and I are registered. It wasn’t on anything cosmetic, it was on a real medical solution, it was one off and it was non negotiable. I just went through the list of hospitals that our program covers, and my hospital is one of them. As a New Nigeria Club member, I would have paid N20,000 in January and it would have taken care of all the medical help I would have needed as an individual in the course of the year.
I know someone would be wondering, what kind of hospitals would be in this network that the HMO will be so confident to give these kind of price. Well, I’ve gone through the list and a good number of the very good private hospitals are there. The one my family uses is there. Our prefered hospitals can also be added if they meet up with the required standards.
Someone might also be saying, I work with a big company and they cover this for me… well, this opportunity is first for those who don’t have anybody to cover this for them, or people who are thinking of resigning but are worried about an exposure in the area of their health. If you are however in a big company, I also know that some companies pay some healthy amount if you don’t use their hospital allowances throughout the year, you can simply have your medical cover here and get your refund from your company yearly.
If your company, association, church or club has less than 30 people and you don’t have a medical health cover, you can inform your HR Manager and advice that all your employees join the NNC. If they are taking time, go ahead and join. There are real things to market here, those are the things we expect our members to talk about, and market people with. This way you can get 40 new people sponsored in just one presentation, they are happy and you are as well.
We have a plan in place for expanding into grass root, students e.t.c. Those in this category who see the opportunities and are willing to deny themselves to be a part of it early should do so… but sometime towards the end of next year, we will open up to grassroots - We are negotiating and closing their deals already.
We remain committed to adding visible value, and are excited about the future possibilities. All members of the club who indicate their interest in the health deal and pay before the 20th of December, will have the opportunity of kicking off with this health opportunity effective January 1, 2008 and it will cover them for the year.
Thanks for believing in us, and more to come.

We were able to secure a deal with a reputable HMO that has over 100 hospitals (and increasing) in its coverage. They were also able to confirm to us that if the preferred hospital of some of our members is not on their list, we could submit the name of the hospital, they would go ahead and do a check on the hospital, and include it if it meets their standards. We were able to negotiate for a comprehensive medical cover that takes care of all of the following items:
- General and Specialist Consultation
- Medical Treatment
- Prescriptions and Medicines
- Laboratory Investigation
- X-Ray Investigations
- Normal and Assisted Delivery
- Basic Eye Treatment
- Basic Dental Care
- Diagnostic Procedures
- Accident and Emergency Treatment
- Local Transport and Ambulance
- Immunization as Delineated by NPI
- Preventive Healthcare
- Annual Physical Examination
- Minor Surgical Procedures
- Physiotherapy
- Family Planning
- Basic Gynecological Care
- Admission in Double Bedded Ward (additional 1k for single bedded)
- Intermediate Surgical Procedures
- Optical Care Including Lenses
- Annual Physical and Medical Examination
- Delivery by Caesarean Section
- Major Surgial Procedures
- Comprehensive Medical Examination
- CT Scan and MRI

Problem Solving
Problem solving is a very important skill that every entrepreneur needs. One of the factors that drive many people away from starting business is the attendant problems and challenges. Entrepreneurs confront some fairly good dose of challenges. The truth also, is that many young businesses fail or die because of challenges. The more we are able to confront, handle, manage, and triumph over challenges, the higher the probability of success as entrepreneurs.
The entrepreneur will encounter many challenges. It is good for you to prepare your mind for that. You see, everybody has problems. Nobody has a special problem. You only have people who have made their problems special.
Bear in mind that the problem is not the problem; the problem is the person confronting the problem. Let this sink into your mind. Write it clearly where you can see it constantly. Because a slight change in your perspective to issues can cause a revolution in your business. Life is about perspectives. It is about how you see things. It is not so much about the things that happen to you but how you see the things that happen to you. If you believe, like I used to, that until you get out of this country you won’t prosper, then that is what your experience will be. It is not so much about the Nigerian economy but your own perspectives. Remember, “As he thinketh in his heart, so is he”.
Understand that the size of the person is more important than the size of the problem. There is no point running frantically all over the place trying desperately to solve the problem. The moment you become desperate, your behaviour shows that you believe that the problem is bigger than you are. The first thing you have to do if you feel anxious is to expand inside. This is best driven home by the story of a young boy who went fishing with his friend. Whenever he caught a fish, he would measure it with a stick and if the fish was longer than the stick he would throw it back into the water but if the fish was shorter than the stick he would throw it into his bucket. His friend, having watched him do this for some time, asked what the deep philosophy behind his actions was. The young man answered, “You see, I have a frying pan at home and I have used this stick to measure the frying pan. Any fish longer than the stick is too big for my frying pan that is why I throw them back into the river”. The human mind functions the same way as this young man’s actions. Whatever idea or challenge is bigger than your mind can handle is rejected or thrown out by your mind. Instead of throwing away the fish, why not expand the ‘frying pan’. Our GOD is wonderful. He will not allow challenges to come your way that you cannot handle. Really, problems come to show you what you can tackle.
The first dimension to problem solving is your attitude to the problem. The moment you can develop the right attitude towards problems there’s no limit to how high you can rise because problem solving is the quickest route to gaining leadership. In building and running a business there is no point you will get to that you won’t have problems to confront. Whether you are the head of a company or not, the moment you have a good handle on your attitude towards problems, and instead of running away from problems others have abandoned you proffer solutions to them, then you are on your way to the top. The very thing, which causes some people to fail, is the thing which causes others to succeed. One person’s problem is another’s opportunity. It has to do with how you see and approach the problem. Attitude is more important than fact. Your attitude is more important than the fact of the problem. The unfortunate thing however, is that most people’s lives are ruled by facts. “Can’t you see, it’s the biggest problem in the world?” they say. When it comes to the issue of solving problems, your attitude to the problem is more important than the fact of the problem. What do problems mean to you? A wise man says, “In the presence of adversity, some develop wings others grow on crutches”.
You have got to see problems as common. Sometimes, when you look at the fact of the situation, the tendency is to think something has happened to you that had never happened to anyone before. This is not true. The moment you allow your problem to birth in you a negative attitude, a belief in impossibility, you would not be able to handle the problem objectively. Instead of looking for solutions, you would be looking for excuses for failure.
Remember, life is about perspectives. What seem like a mountain to an ant is a small stone to a human. Expand your mental capacity. Face the problem with the attitude that there is a way out and you will find it. Moreover, believe that GOD will help you to overcome it. Whatever your challenge today, don’t run away from business. This situation will pass. Be like a postage stamp that sticks to a letter till it gets to its destination. Remember, beyond the clouds, the sun is still shining. This dark cloud will pass.
You will Succeed.

THE CLUB'S REWARDS SYSTEM
Remember, it is not compulsory to participate in the Club's Rewards Programme. But if you decide to, you will be empowering yourself to earn over N700,000 every time you complete the rewards cycle. Generally, the advantages of membership are numerous and you will be provided with access to wonderful deals at discounted prices exclusive to New Nigeria Club members, an opportunity to network, and opportunities to expose your business, skills and talents to the network as well as an automatic entry into its renowned Rewards System/Contest for free.
If you choose to participate in the Rewards programme, you will be placed on the lowest of the 3-cycle boards. Each board has 3 levels and a total of 7 positions on the board which is divided as follows: There is one (1) person at the topmost level, two (2) people at the second level and four (4) people at the bottom level. As you and every other person on your board refer people to the Club they fill the lowest row of the board (just 4 people are needed to fill this row). And every time this happens, the topmost person moves on (or cycles) to a higher board, while all the others on the board move up one step. Your sponsor would explain the details of this to you. You will keep on moving from level to level on each board and eventually cycle into a higher board. But ask your sponsor to elaborate more on this for you.
What do you need to do to cycle? The first thing you need to do is sponsor two (2) or more people who register as New Nigeria Club members. You then continue to build a team, by encouraging them to also sponsor other people into the club. As soon as the board you are on fills up, people are promoted to higher levels based on their marketing strength. For details on board dynamics, contact your sponsor or attend one of the New Nigeria Club Seminars near you.
How many people do you need to sponsor? You can sponsor as many people as you want. It depends on how interested you are in getting to the top and how quickly you want to do it . But if you can sponsor just 2 people into the Club, then you have met all the requirements of the Club. What would be left for you to do is to encourage your “downlines” i.e. the people you sponsored to do likewise. However, some of your downlines might not be very active at the long run, so it behoves on you to ensure your overall success by sponsoring more people if you can. Find out from any of the seminars you might be attending how best to do this. It is really very easy.
What is the advantage of sponsoring more than 2 people? You will receive a 5% bonus on rewards earned by your direct referrals as they cycle through boards. You will also receive a further percentage of all rewards earned by their referrals 4 levels deep. The follow-the-leader system allows all members to follow their referrals. If you bring in many people, when you re-enter a Transition Board, you have a higher chance of not having to sponsor any new members, because all the people you brought in will ALWAYS follow you and push you through the boards faster.
What do I receive when I cycle? There are 3 levels of payment for each board you cycle out from.
Cycle from the first board nicknamed “Old Nigeria Board”
You get N10,000.00
Cycle from the second board nicknamed “Transition Board”
You get N40,000.00
Cycle from the third board nicknamed “New Nigeria Board”
You get N650,000.00
After cycling from the third board and receiving N650,000 cash, you will be re-entered into the system at the bottom of a Transition Board, this way you get to help the people you sponsored to achieve the ultimate price as well.
What are Board splits and how do they affect me? Every board needs just seven people to fill it up. Of this seven, three people are already occupying the top and centre levels while the lowest level requires four people to fill it up. This four people are people who have been introduced to the club by you and/or other members on that board or related to that board in one way or the other. When a board fills up, the person at the topmost level moves on to a higher board, while the remaining six people are divided three each into 2 new boards. Two of these 6 people will occupy the top levels of these two new boards, while the other four people will occupy the middle levels of these new boards. This means that the new two boards will have four empty spaces at the lowest level waiting to be filled by new members coming into the Club. This process is called splitting and it allows everyone to gradually move up the levels of a board and unto higher boards while they get paid along the way.

Welcome to New Nigeria Club!

At last the next big thing is here, the New Nigeria Club for Nigerians.
Is honesty, integrity, loyalty, fairness and equity part of your virtues? Are you tired of the daily pains of corruption in our society in spite of all the rich mineral resources? Do you in your imaginations dream of a Nigeria where everything works? Here is your chance to be part of this great change. A bloodless revolution!
The Objective: New Nigeria Club was formed to create a positive image for Nigeria and Nigerians at home and abroad while playing our part in placating the woes of poverty in Nigeria. Our overall aim is to be a voice and an arm in the building of the Nigeria of our dreams.
The Vision: To build a critical mass of 5,000,000 Nigerians who are satisfied members of the club and who are active participants in the building of the New Nigeria.
How Will This be Achieved: By leveraging on the possibility of creating win-win opportunities for a wide range and variety of people to build a critical mass of people who will be involved in Nation building. The Next BIG Thing- 48 Hours More...
Another wonderful piece from the master himself, Adeolu Akinyemi as we gradually approach the dawn of a new era in Nigeria. Here the master gives us the history of Multi Level Marketing generally known as MLM today.
The topic below is a product of an extensive research in detailed perspective. Join me as we follow Deolu through the history of one of the finest forms of marketing today. MLM.
The New Nigeria Story -3
I’ve written a little about the idea, a little about the people, and sure I need to share my understanding of the system and process. By the way, we have less than 48hrs left to prelaunch. All the t’s have been crossed, just dotting the final few i’s.
In the course of pushing forward this idea, I have come to know some people better and appreciate them and their roles a bit more. We’ve had meetings where we played devils advocate, why will this fail? We’ve looked at it from the top, and from the bottom. We’ve spoken with multilevel marketing enthusiasts and we’ve spoken with people that disdain MLM. We’ve even had meetings where we deliberated on the possibility of establishing the social network without the MLM side of it. At several different times I have been tempted to change the model… Let people pay for club membership, enjoy the discounts and the opportunity to meet with people who believe in Nigeria’s future, work on projects together and knock off any board or mlm type structure as a benefit.
What will be the difference, I have often asked myself and my colleagues, and the answer we often seem to get is. It will still be grand, it will be slower, but it will surely happen, but why crawl if you can fly? We thought it over and over, and decided eventually to succumb to one of the lesser temptations we had. We decided to leave MLM out of the benefits of the program! Now if you stop here, you might be partially misinformed. Read on.
We succumbed to the temptation of separating the club from the boards, but rather making the board a reward program/contest and a free opportunity to members that join the club in the first 6 months (can be extended depending on events) of the formation of the club. The club membership will have a cost, and joining the referral program will be an option you can enter at a cost in the future, but for free at the moment. We would strive to ensure that members of the club can have value equal to over 200% of the value they paid by just taking advantage of the deals. Today for example, we already have an opportunity that once members take advantage of, can give them up to 200% of their club membership fee back in just one blow. Not everybody is a marketer, and as such not everybody will make money on the board reward system, but everybody will have an avenue to benefit from the services being rendered by the club.
Since one of the main attractions to this initiative by many will be the MLM angle, I think I need to do a little explanation on why I think Multilevel Marketing isn’t as bad as many people perceive it. I have done a decent amount of research online, I’ve seen arguments for and against, and here is what I have come to believe about MLM as a tool.
If you have time to read a very interesting article I’m tempted to copy and paste here… you can go to… it’s the history and truth about Network Marketing by Greg Stewart, else I can give you a summary… and hope it will wet your appetite enough to go peep yourself.
Article Summary.
1. RESISTANCE TO CHANGE: People are reluctant to change and will prefer to stay within their comfort zone. Every new idea always faced reistance, but there is nothing that can be done to an idea whose time has come. Christopher Columbus, Louis Pasteur, Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein were all riddiculed for the change they sought to bring. In almost every field of endeavour, the arts, sciences, medicine, and business, most new ideas have always met with resistance and rejection at first. The more unique and revolutionary the idea, the louder and stronger the opposition to it.
Departmental StoresIn the 1800’s, people bought what they needed at small, family owned shops. Then a man named W.T. Grant had an idea that created change. What if we combined all these separate, little shops by making them individual departments under one roof, in one large store? A new and better way of doing things. Customers loved it.
The individual merchants who owned the old-fashioned retail stores saw their businesses decline. The shopkeepers fought back politically. There were thousands of them with thousands of votes, and they lobbied for their right to do things the same old way. They finally got the local and state governments to outlaw Grant’s department stores. Eventually, Grant’s department store won out. If there is a better way it will persist.
FranchisingIn the early 1960’s franchising was a revolutionary new technology in business, and it was also met with resistance. Newspapers and magazines wrote what a scam and rip-off franchising was. Stories of people who lost their life savings to some franchise were everywhere. There was a strong move to make franchising illegal. In fact, franchising actually came within 11 votes of being outlawed by Congress. Today this so-called scam is responsible for over 34 percent of all retail sales in North America. Franchises sell nearly 800 billion dollars worth of goods and services today.
Chiropractors, Stock Market and NewspapersEvery industry goes through an evolution similar to this. Chiropractors were considered quacks in the 1970’s, the stock market was considered shady and a form of gambling, and the first newspaper in British North America, The Public Occurrence (1690), was suppressed by the governor of Massachusetts. Now, we almost can’t do without these industries.
2. NETWORK MARKETING HISTORY: Network Marketing Started in the early 1940’s. It was started by a company by the name California Vitamins, that discovered that most of it’s new sales force coming aboard were mostly friends and family members of their existing sales force. This they discovered was because they were interested in buying at wholesale prices. They also discovered that it was easier to sell more with a large sales force, than a few superstars. They combined these two ideas together, developed a compensation structure and allowed their sales force to make confer representative status on their satisfied customers. The sales force grew exponentially and the company rewarded all the sales reps for the sales produced. That was the birth of Network Marketing. The company later changed it’s name to NutraLite Food Supplement Corporations.
Not long after, in 1959, former distributors of NutraLite Rich DeVoss and Jay Van Andel, started Amway Company. Amway became the popular benchmark for Network Marketing.
3. NETWORK MARKETING VS PYRAMID SCHEMES: Shortly before the wake of Network Marketing, there was a chain letter phenomena that reigned in the US, people were asked to send mails to the person at the bottom of a list and that if they carried on with the process they be on the list as well and will earn a lot of fortune. This phenomena reigned in the US and Europe for a long period. In the 1930s the post office confirmed that 10million letters were being posted daily, this was exponential. A lot more of this sprang up and were called pyramid schemes. Companies with no real products offering people money for bringing others in. By the time the government injunction came against these pyramid schemes, network marketing companies were not differentiated in the blanket injunction.
In 1974, Senator Walter Mondale declared such companies to be the nation’s number one consumer. Law enforcement agencies moved quickly to clean up the abuses. In the mid 1970’s, with no clear understanding of what constituted a legitimate use of network marketing, the Federal Trade Commission and state agencies across the nation turned their eyes to almost all network marketing companies. In 1975, the FTC filed suit against Amway, alleging that the company was an illegal pyramid and that its refusal to sell its products in retail stores constituted a restraint of trade.
Amway spent four years and millions of dollars in legal fees to clear its name. In 1979 the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) ruled that Amway was not a pyramid, that its revenue was generated from the sale of its products, and the FTC acknowledged network marketing as a legal and efficient distribution system. Network Marketing exploded in the next decade.
4. WHO IS IN NETWORK MARKETING TODAY?: Today there are thousands of Network Marketing companies operating throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan and the Pacific Basin. Little Malaysia alone has more than 800 active Network Marketing companies. Network Marketing is reported to be a $100 billion dollar industry, internationally, made up of FORTUNE 500 and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) companies.
In 1993, Amway was the fastest growing foreign company in Japan with sales over $1 billion. Discovery Toys markets their products solely by Network Marketing, with sales figures in excess of $100 million. Sprint, MCI and AT&T make their long distance phone service available through Network Marketing companies. The A.L. Williams Company utilized Network Marketing and astounded the insurance industry by outselling Prudential, a giant in the industry, in four short years.
Traditional sales method companies such as Colgate-Palmolive and the Gillette Company have Network Marketing subsidiaries. Rexall Drug is now utilizing the Network Marketing method of distribution with its subsidiary, Rexall Showcase. Network Marketing companies such as Melaleuca outperformed Liz Claiborne, The Limited and John Paul Mitchell while Nu Skin bested the likes of Maybelline, Dow Chemical and Matrix. Mary Kay is bigger than Johnson & Johnson, Amway is bigger than Revlon, and Avon is bigger than Estee Lauder. Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart is quoted as saying, “I’d rather run a profitable business in an unconventional industry than an unprofitable business in a conventional industry.”
Network Marketing has evolved in other ways, as well. Companies that began as direct selling companies are now utilizing networking marketing compensation plans. Some examples include Avon, the $3 billion cosmetic giant, Watkins Products, which had been direct selling for nearly 100 years before it converted to network marketing, and Encyclopedia Britannica.
One reason for the decline of direct selling is that beginning in the 1970’s, distributors making calls on people found that no one was home. Women, long standing as the customer backbone of direct sales, had entered the work force, leaving few at home during the day. Companies watching these societal trends moved quickly to revise their marketing plans to network marketing, which allows for more informal methods of sales and greater compensation.
Network Marketing Companies have actually pioneered entire industries: natural vitamin supplements, nutrition and diet drinks, concentrated and environmentally friendly household cleaners. One network marketing company almost single-handedly created the billion dollar home water filtration business.
5. WHAT’S IN IT FOR THE COMPANIES?:Why are so many companies utilizing network marketing as their chosen method of marketing? Simply stated, it’s more efficient! They do not pay for marketing, distribution or sales until after the sale is made and the product is delivered. Compare that to traditional marketing where a company can spend millions of dollars on advertising, as well as all costs associated with an employee based sales force, such as benefits, support staff, communication, travel and office, before any product is sold. Charles Givens, financial expert and best selling author of Wealth Without Risk, points out that 80 percent of the cost of getting a product to consumers today is the result of marketing expenses. Companies are looking to move their cost as close to the point of sale as possible. Network Marketing companies replace traditional advertising and marketing costs with sales commissions to the independent representatives, paid after the product is sold.
Advertising Age magazine states that the recommendation from a friend is the most powerful form of advertising; that is what Network Marketing is all about.
The changing work place has demonstrated that there is no security in the traditional corporate structure and career path. In the United States over 3,100 jobs are lost each day due to downsizing. Automation and technological advances are streamlining business and changing entire industries. Millions of people will be out of work searching for the same kinds of jobs their former employers just eliminated, in another company that just hasn’t yet streamlined. This is postponing the inevitable; In fact, 47 percent of the companies that made up the Fortune 500 in 1980 are no longer in operation today, which represents a net loss of more than five million jobs!
Technological advances affect the work forces of entire industries. One example is the vinyl record business. In 1985, vinyl records supported a $24 billion a year industry. Today it is all but extinct, having been replaced with producers of cassettes tapes and compact discs. The steel and copper industries have suffered with the advent of new plastics and alloys. The functions computers are able to execute have caused the replacement of millions of workers. Robotic technology similarly has taken its toll in the workplace. One robot can replace twenty human workers and extinguishes the need for companies to pay exorbitant amounts in employee benefits. Man Power Inc., a temporary service, is now one of the largest employers in the world because companies are finding it less expensive to hire temporary employees and thereby avoid paying benefits to permanent employees.
Marketing on a part-time effort can provide a financial cushion of residual income to protect oneself from such events. A recent Wall Street Journal survey found that 80 percent of the work force want to own their own business and 40 percent surveyed would like to work at home. This is exactly what network marketing provides. People are searching for ways to build a future that develops leadership and provides a balance in their lives for their families and each other, without sacrificing their sanity in the process.
6. HOW DOES IT WORK?: In network marketing, you share information and develop personal and professional contacts. You are rewarded for sharing information that results in product sales. Network Marketing empowers you to build your own networking sales organization from your personal and professional contacts, which also empowers everyone to do the same, creating exponential growth of your network. You can earn income from the successful efforts of your network of business associates. Unlike conventional Corporations with one chief executive at the top, in Network Marketing everyone is the CEO of his or her own independent organization.
7. WHY SO MUCH NEGATIVITY? One of the reasons for the success of Network Marketing in the 1990’s is that it is based on cooperation, not competition. Unlike in traditional business, career advancement in network marketing comes directly from helping to create success with those that you introduce to the company. Network Marketing is sharing information that results in product sales. People involve themselves because they want to finally be compensated for what their efforts are really worth. They’re involved because somebody cared enough about them to show them the awesome opportunity of network marketing. They get involved because they were ready to make a change. Why Hasn’t the Truth About Network Marketing Been Told?People resist change and are fearful of what is not fully understood. People are comfortable with what is known and accepted by most.
The truth is that most people in power today have an overriding fear of the loss of their own power. Network Marketing is about empowerment of the individual. Is it really your best interest they have at heart? Remember what happened with W.T. Grant, franchising, and the first newspaper? Most new concepts have always met with resistance and rejection at first.
Newspapers, magazines, radio and television earn their primary profits from their advertisers. Is it in the media’s best interest to say anything positive about an industry that does not advertise? Do you suppose major traditional marketing companies that are receiving increased competition from network marketing companies are excited? Whose side do you suppose the media would take to protect their advertising dollar?
A few years ago a network marketing company that sold personal care products became the attention of the media and several state Attorney Generals. Their sales were approaching $500 million dollars. These sales were being taken away from companies such as Revlon, Max Factor, Estee Lauder and others in the health and beauty aids industry. Do you believe the competition was pleased with the success of a network marketing company that was not spending multi-millions of dollars on advertising as they had traditionally done? Furthermore, network marketing companies were bypassing the department stores and malls and going direct to the consumer’s living rooms with sharing, caring service and timesaving convenience. What if you were one of the brokers, retailers, wholesalers, media people or any other person whose job or businesses were being threatened because network marketing was a new and better way of doing things? What would you do?
If you had a friend in the State Attorney general’s office would you call them? If you or your company had contributed to any industry lobbyist, political action committee or had media contacts might they be contacted, too? What if, in fact, your job were in jeopardy either as the VP of Sales or as one of the executive staff who might have to answer to stockholders and explain why your market share was being taken away by some network marketing company and your position, your power and your income were at stake? Do you suppose these strategies are ever used against a competitor? How many votes do you suppose an Attorney General would risk by focusing on a network marketing company that employed many people and paid a great amount of local and state taxes - in a different state?
Just as in any business or industry, there are scams and schemes that hurt the industry image. Real estate has had its scams. Banking and Savings and Loans have had their improprieties. Ministries have had abuses for self-serving purposes. The stock market has had its insider trading scandals. Why should network marketing be any different?Look at the company, the product, its management and their past history. Understand the commitment that is necessary to achieve success and residual income. This advice is just as valid in network marketing as in anything else.
There are many myths about the industry of network marketing and the companies involved. It is true that many recognized traditional companies have started subsidiaries, such as Gillette, Colgate-Palmolive, Rexall and thousands of other companies that are using network marketing as their preferred method of distribution, creating sales of approximately $100 billion dollars. It is often stated that Coca-Cola, Goodyear, IBM, Firestone, and General Motors are involved in network marketing with their own divisions. Actually, these companies are suppliers of products to companies that utilize network marketing, such as Amway. MCI, U.S. Sprint and AT&T supply long distance service to network marketing companies that are rebillers. Due to the high cost of real estate for showrooms, Toyota of Japan uses direct sales to market directly to the consumer, but not network marketing.
Network Marketing is the new way to financial freedom. You’ll never create residual income and freedom from the traditional job. Even professionals are trading their time for money; if they are not seeing clients or patients, they are not getting paid. Most income is temporary and it is easy to determine if your income is temporary - just stop working for 90 days. If your income stops or slows down, you have temporary income.
In network marketing you can stop trading time for money. Once you develop a solid network of sales representatives, you will create ongoing residual income. This can give you the freedom to do what you want when you want to.
It’s interesting how resistant we are to change. We want to stay in our comfort zones even when we’re miserable. It’s been said network marketing is the next step in the evolution of free enterprise. But there is one thing we can always be assured of: the most fundamental fact of life in our world today is that change is inevitable!

The Next BIG Thing- Prelude...
The Next Big Thing is scheduled for pre-launched within the next few hours as confirmed by Deolu Akinyemi, one of the organisers of the project in his recent post titled- The New Nigeria Story-1 where he previewed the purpose of the project.
"Everthing is set and ready to roll, we are just dotting the final i’s and crossing the final t’s. In 10yrs to come, a lot of what would have taken place will be subject to different interpretations, you can have this for your records, as the fabrics of the intent that created the revolution. Some of us may not be as relevant then as now or vice versa, but it’s a ride I’ve made up my mind I will enjoy. We are a few long hours from pre-launch, may the future of our great nation depend on us"
It is a wonderful piece written by one of the emerging leaders of our time.

The New Nigeria Story-1
Some weeks back I wrote an article on our Envisioned Nigeria. The article was read by many and elicited a lot of comments. I was impressed by the number of young Nigerians that are genuinely interested in the birth of the Nigeria of our dreams. We also all alluded to the fact that what was stopping us from greatness wasn’t lack of human talent, resources or even capital. It occured to me that the solution to the challenges facing our great country today wasn’t that there weren’t people who knew what the issues were, there are people who know and, within their own circles of influence, are causing some ripples of change. The real problem is that though majority has an opinion that things can change, they are scattered voices.
It occured to me that the first step towards National Development, is a platform that unites the many voices. Having the same opinion doesn’t count, creating a platform where we all execute these opinions does. For example, if we all believe that Mr B is the ideal leader for Nigeria, it won’t matter if we don’t all take action and vote for him. It became apparent that we needed a critical mass of people, a cult-like structure and also a self sustaining system. We’ll need to have weekly envisioning meetings, monthly seminars and quarterly conversations. We need to drive it like a crusade, and publicize the desire and possibility of change on the mountain tops. Some people will not join because they believe it’s not profitable for them, some people will participate because there is nothing else to do. It would require many volunteers, it would require a large workforce, it will require commitment and it won’t happen overnight. If the meetings are too regular people will wear out, if the meetings were too infrequent people will loose fire. How do we make all these happen and get the critical mass with so many odds against us? Or is it a wild goose chase…?
These thoughts got me thinking and set me on a quest to find a worthwhile solution. When I thought it through, I started by bouncing it off my colleagues at work, bouncing it off my mentors, bouncing it off some friends, and so far, all the people whose opinions matter to me have not only given it their blessings, they have indicated interest. So what is this solution, you might ask,? I’ll share it with you here, and in many posts to come.
In my opinion, one of the most successful programs in creating the biggest critical mass out of the young people (20-40) in Nigeria today is MLM. I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing, but more Nigerians are online, attending seminars and even holding their own today, than ever before, and what are they all about… Network Marketing! I have seen more people leave scamming, more people resign and take their destinies in their hands, more people going to school this year than before…why? Network Marketing! But I have also seen the downsides, many unsatisfied and unhappy people, who paid for a product they were not planning to use, just because they hoped to market it hard enough to get the financial rewards. I wondered that it would be fantastic if I could think of a way to use the potentials of Network Marketing to drive the course of a New Nigeria, and how it would be great if we can find a way to eradicate the downsides and satisfy a majority. This wondering birthed a combination that I’m yet to present to someone, one on one, and not elicit approval or support. I know that a lot of things get lost in words on a page, so this might be a bit different…but I’ll try all the same.
The Idea…
For the past 7 months, I have been holding weekly, at a point daily, and certainly monthly seminars targeted at helping people understand how a particular Network marketing program works. I have also been invited to schools, religious meetings, people’s homes, companies e.t.c, on the merit of having benefit superior knowledge about the workings of some Network Marketing programs. Some sites have become the most frequently visited sites on the internet today… (Welcome to the… Hello Julian…) MLM sites. I have made many friends, and met many new people. We called each other, and met regularly. There has been a lot of activity without a course other than people looking for ways to profit and make ends meet. What if we can push all this activity behind a course.
What if we could still hold these seminars with as much frequency, and what if we got together to talk about was what we could do to change the public image of Nigeria, the inner perception of the Nigerian man, and take up worthy courses in building the nation? What if everytime we went online, the most popular sites on the net, placed before us, images of a better Nigeria? What if when we stay awake at night talking about the compensation boards, our language rather than mainboard, platinum or sapphire boards can be things that have to do with words that show our progression into a New Nigeria? What if the craze that goes on with some of these MLMs of people branding t-shirts, doing adverts, holding seminars and erecting websites can be done using words like - I believe in the Nigerian Dream, Imagine Nigeria in 2020, and positive re-affirming words like that? What if we make it rewarding for people to be a part of a club that will make it happen? What if we can use these rewards to create positive peer pressure, and enforce certain ideals as pre-requisites to continous membership? What if we can get the endorsements of Industry Titans and citizens of repute? What if we can retain a good part of the money going overseas back in Nigeria and use it to add value locally? What if the first members on the reward boards were parastals and sectors of the country we want to help? What if people joined a club with benefits that will be give them discounts worth 200% of their membership free, and they join the rewards program for absolutely free?
The “what if’s” gave birth to possibilities. Also with these possibilities came a lot of fear and apprehension… what if we are misconstrued, what if the powers that be make us a target to pull us down? What if our purpose gets disrupted by political forces that find us too united a voice? What if things don’t turn out as easy as they should, and the way to the realization of our dreams gives us the dreaded option of a few nights off at the local jail? In the words of our lawyer - “it shouldn’t, you have nothing to worry about”, but what if?
I gave my colleagues and friends an option of these extremes, and as of today, we are willing to take that chance and be relevant to the history of the New Nigeria. I didn’t only share it with my colleagues, I shared it with some other key people as well. I’ll give you the full gist as I write one story after another. I have people who are so passionate about this, that I am tripped, even Nigerians outside Nigeria. What you have here are the fabrics of the thoughts on which the concept of the “Next Big Thing” (hopefuly not just the next) is built. Like every new initiative, there will be a few that will catch the fire on time, and there will be people whose skepticism can only melt with time. There will be people that will join just for the gains, there will also be those, who don’t believe that anything good can come from Nigeria. We are doing all the testing, piloting and due dilligence today to avoid any statement of defamation to our country. I have pressures from every side from thousands of people who are ready to roll, but I remain unrepentant of my commitment to excellence.
Everthing is set and ready to roll, we are just dotting the final i’s and crossing the final t’s.
